Digital Skills Matchmaking: Where CSR Starts with Speed Dating

Companies match with digital initiatives to accelerate partnerships & innovation

At first glance it might resemble speed dating, but Digital Skills Matchmaking is on a mission to catalyze new digital skills corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects.

The event brings together companies interested in supplementing their CSR efforts and owners of socially minded digital projects. Digital Luxembourg and IMS Luxembourg, a national network of companies involved in CSR, are combining their resources, expertise and connections to execute the event.

“IMS Luxembourg has tested this format before, and it’s proven highly effective, ” says Claudine Kariger, Advisor, Luxembourg Department of Media, Connectivity and Digital Policy. “To have a two-hour event result in roughly 20 new CSR partnerships is incredible. Every year, we try to make improvements, but the format has not changed.”

For example, the Maison de l’Orientation, Luxembourg’s public career counseling service, came away with multiple partnerships:

  • Incubator NYUKO will lead an entrepreneurship workshop at Maison de l’Orientation
  • Women in Digital Empowerment agreed to help organize an information session on digital, coding and IT professions in October 2022

Indoor Forest, a social impact company introducing micro-biodiversity to indoor living and working spaces, will lead a workshop on pollution for kids at Kids Life Skills, while Kids Life Skills will help Indoor Forest design a more user-friendly app and website.

The resulting CSR partnerships come in many forms, from participating in one another’s events to co-developing services. To date, the two completed sessions have resulted in 36 partnerships. Digital Skills Matchmaking takes place at the ICT Spring conference, a hub of activity and new ideas that draws changemakers from across Europe.

Due to its continued success, a third installment is already in the works for June 2023. This year aims to highlight digital skills-based sponsorships. These sponsorships would let employees use their digital skills to work on general interest projects during working hours.

Organizers are always on the lookout for companies, public organizations and project owners interested in engaging in a partnership around digital skills.
