Claude Meisch: excellent career prospects for ICT graduates

On 21 March 2016, the Minister for Education, Children and Youth Claude Meisch, speaking on RTL Radio, referred to the shortage of qualified employees in the IT sector.

In the interview, Claude Meisch explained that the number of pupils and students currently enrolled in IT sections was not enough to meet the substantial demand for IT profiles. According to a recent study entitled “Les qualifications de demain dans les TIC” (Tomorrow’s qualifications in ICT), there will be 500 vacancies in the sector over the next two years.

“Students with a BTS diploma or a bachelor’s or master’s degree in the ICT field have excellent career prospects in the Grand Duchy”, confirmed Claude Meisch, before going on to mention the makerspaces set up in secondary schools with a view to interesting young people in the sector as early as possible. The Minister said he was delighted by the talent already revealed by these makerspaces, which were reminiscent of the garage that saw the beginning of Steve Jobs’ career.
