Digital Luxembourg @ Game of Code 2018

On March 16 & 17,  IT One hosted the third Game of Code Hackathon, the ultimate competition for coding enthusiasts, at Forum Geesseknäppchen.

Twenty-one teams, 24 hours and three challenges.

Digital Luxembourg set the Open Data Challenge, inviting competitors to design new apps and services that use or create Open Data to improve social, economic and environmental behavior. The jury awarded the Healthy Bike team first prize for their pollution sensor idea.

For the Machine Challenge designed by Docler Holding the teams had to come up with an original tech feature showcasing the possibilities of machine learning. The PolnPy team scooped up first prize with its innovative pollen concentration data app.

Designed by BEE CREATIVE, the third challenge, Make@on, invited budding coders aged 10 to 16 to be imaginative and get creative with Kniwwelino, a micro-controller designed for young people. Their mission was to design something that promotes smart and sustainable living. This challenge was a fantastic way to show the coders of the future the potential of new technology and the positive impact it can have on the world.

With entertaining and informative talks from keynote speakers, a kick-off speech by Luxembourg PM Xavier Bettel, as well as support from technical experts and mentors throughout the hackathon, the participants had plenty of inspiration and creative fuel to drive them through the 24-hour action-packed challenge – not to mention unlimited pizza and popcorn!
